dressed by the lights, on a cold November night she steps slowly to the mic her breath pulsing through the crowd she looks around at the tables and chairs filled with brown and blue stares each with tales of despair and hope they all want a song to call their own not everyone can shine bright and strong on their own but together they sure give off light bringing life to the side streets with each constellation that forms they’re the stars of the city each night she could be from Brooklyn or Jersey LA or Calgary really, anywhere around from town to town, a few notes and some chords and a ’92 Ford paint the evenings with colors anew in her heart, mind and voice it’s all she knows how to do not everyone can shine bright and strong on their own but together they sure give off light bringing life to the side streets with each constellation that forms they’re the stars of the city each night oh, each day arrives, yeah, there’s something to prove to all that seek meaning, entertainment and truth and every time someone steps to the stage another sun is made so sing each word know whichever way they’re heard and no matter how inferred hearts make of it what they can - it all depends and based on paths different love may represent a rose, a sword or a stone she lets us go, where ever we want to go not everyone can shine bright and strong on their own but together they sure give off light bringing life to the side streets with each constellation that forms they’re they stars of the city each night

woke up one morning with no side to choose and at that moment, I had nothing to lose opened my eyes to light, bit by bit afraid to face the world, I have to admit yesterday I came across my wandering reflection it stepped to my side without any objection I guess I now know what gave it away what made you mad and not want to stay all this shows is that you had to go well, what are you going to do without me? are you going to laugh and leave me to be always wondering why you left with all of my keys while trying to set yourself free? it's much too quiet, I can hear my mind think yet these thoughts only come when I'm asleep everything that was once adored becomes the part of me I want to ignore well, since you're gone can you tell me what went wrong? has it been so long that you don't know what to do without me? are you going to laugh and leave me to be always wondering why you left with all of my keys while trying to set yourself free? you forgot about me in your vanity but your mirror doesn't show everything I know about you well, what are you going to do without me? are you going to laugh and leave me to be always wondering why you left with all of my keys while trying to set yourself free?

you're twenty-five and tracing the lines accenting each eye over and over with each passing day speeding through this life never looking down to remind what's at stake and pushing up the edge to break would be to lose sight of the path left by the others ahead your mirage left behind oh see what we'll find let's walk awhile outside the world that's weighing down your head forget the lies and those empty smiles bring dreams back out of bed for this moment, let your mind run free the way it wants to be oh, tonight lets confide in what's hidden inside we don't need to speak - just watch this world sleep capture all this silence the stillness of this time the more you leave yourself to breathe the more you'll realize that instead of directing each move you make trust life to change and grow roots don't form a straight line down they spread out and build strength from below the city won't know you've left so as everyone rests let's walk awhile, outside the world that's weighing down your head forget the lies and the empty smiles bring dreams back out of bed for this moment, let your mind run free the way it wants to be oh, tonight lets confide in what's hidden inside we don't need to speak - just watch this world sleep
